I've heard that said countless times by individuals who use it as an excuse for not being able to give a gift during birthdays, weddings and other occasions that traditionally require gifts. I've always been happy just having people around. The fact that they came upon YOUR/MY invitation somehow tells of your importance/value to them. Weather it be for good or not so good reasons, let's leave it at that.
Today however, I was particularly thankful for the way some people expressed their thoughts for me. It was my birthday. My dad Pete wrote me a card. So what's a so good about writing a card you say. He's undergoing physical therapy due to a mild stroke impairing his motor skills. It's a big thing for him, and for me because he chose to exert a significant effort just to write me and express his blessing. The youth leaders creatively expressed their thoughts by pasting their head pics on a giant card and writing a note of appreciation. And of course my wife who unselfishly initiated my plans for executing this thanksgiving event. Her selflessness is a testimony of God's love.
Maybe next time we need to think twice before we use the cliche as an excuse. The truth is even if we don't say it, the thought does count. Here's another cliche, "action speaks louder than words", or thoughts for that matter.
