No, I have nothing against Filipino domestic helpers. I'm filipino & am proud to be one! I'm also in awe of the thousands who leave behind family, friends and familiarity and live among strangers in a strange land caring for them for the purpose of helping those you left behind. Ironic I know & I don't agree with it at many points. I think one does more harm by breaking up the family even though the intentions are noble. But that's not what this post is entirely about.
I had an opportunity to live in Papua New Guinea (PNG) for 7.5 years back in the 80's-90's as a child. It was a relatively comfortable life, being that my parents were missionaries and were trained for the hard life. I remember not meeting any Filipinos who didn't have their own car. It wasn't until I returned last year then again this year, due to my mom's death, that I realized just how blessed overseas foreign working (OFW) Pinoy's are in that nation.
PNG is one of a few countries where it is illegal by law for foreigners to work as domestic helpers. Most, if not all Noypis in PNG are professionals. :D I only came to the realization of this because on April 2007, I ministered mostly among Christian Filipino OFW's in the capital
city of Port Moresby (POM). Growing up, in the 80's there, our family's ministry focus was
among the nationals/locals. Although
my parents were instrumental in starting the now

growing International Christian
Fellowship to minister to the expatriates (mostly asian) working
in the Moresby.
This was surprising to me because I never thought such laws existed anywhere in the world! I always thought , when people work in other countries, they can apply for any type of work.
Do you know other countries where foreigners are not permitted to work as domestic helpers?
