A former General Superintendent of a major denomination in the Philippines admits his mistakes from years back.
It was during a ministers meeting where he was tasked to teach on transitioning to a cell church. During the open forum at the end of the lecture, he admitted that what he taught several decades back in the Bible Schools about how to do church was wrong. He didn't say he was sorry, but the fact that a person of his stature would admit a mistake was a great example of humility. Admitting a mistake is admitting to fail.
The good thing with this former GS is that he has never stopped learning. People with integrity weather the seasons in life. He's still in demand today as a church consultant, teacher, mentor and Pastor despite his failing health i think it's because his character has remained consistent never pretending to be what he's not. He leads out of who he is, warts and all. Thank God for people who love God and are committed to His Kingdom's agenda more than man-made traditions. When we know who we are in Christ, that becomes our security. No need to pretend because God knows all about us. If He can use failures like Peter, why not us?
John Maxwell I think it was who said, "It's ok to fail as long as you fail forward". It seems, leaders who endure are those who know how to get up after a failure, admit where they failed, learn from the experience, improve, innovate and move on. May we become those kinds of leaders.
